About Our School
Community Montessori Academy offers an outstanding Montessori program for children 2-6 years old, including Kindergarten. We are an early childhood school, not a day care center. However, we do offer early care and extended day programs. Our Summer Camp is the perfect complement to our school year calendar. CMA has earned Full Member Status of the American Montessori Society and is an active member of NJMAC. We are dedicated to providing children an excellent foundation to build their life’s education and the opportunity to reach their full potential in all areas of development.
Every class at CMA has an experienced Head
Teacher who is Montessori-Certified for the specific age group of
the children in their class. Our Assistant Teachers successfully
complete Montessori Assistant Training, and are encouraged to become
certified through our Tuition Reimbursement Program and CMTE, NY
(Montessori Teacher Training Program). Additionally, CMA provides
American Red Cross Infant/Child CPR and First Aid training for all
staff.
Our Montessori classrooms are divided into seven basic areas:
Practical Life, Sensorial, Math, Language, Art, Science and
Geography/Cultural Studies. Each child is introduced to the
materials in each area through ongoing lessons. Every child has the
opportunity to master all of the skills and expand knowledge
according to his or her developmental level and interest. Their
early life experience at CMA allows them to reach their full
potential cognitively, socially, emotionally, physically and
academically, while being encouraged to value themselves and others,
and gain solid decision-making skills. Even the youngest child
experiences success in his work, while the most advanced child will
find a stimulating challenge. The result is an early enthusiasm for
learning.
Equally as important is the peaceful,
respectful environment at CMA. Our teachers are caring and attentive
to children’s needs. Every child is treated with respect and
patience, and in turn they learn to do the same. Our Montessori
classrooms are a child’s world, designed to allow the children
freedom and independence to work within appropriate boundaries and
surroundings geared to the children’s size. The attractive materials
are on low shelves and are easily accessible to all children.
In addition to the above, the curriculum also includes storytelling, yoga, foreign language, computers and music. We have two outdoor organic gardens where the children plant, care for, harvest and eat their own herbs and veggies! Each class has its own pet to offer valuable lessons in compassion.
We
offer a Music Together program for every child attending CMA at no additional charge. We all enjoy
Miss Krista’s weekly music classes. In addition, all CMA teachers
receive ingoing music training and instruction to incorporate the
music program into our every day.
